About the role

Across all client experiences – from the very largest public and multinational businesses to small businesses and individuals – the ATO’s Client Engagement Group uses insights from client interactions to help design a tax system that makes it easier to comply and harder not to.

As a Deputy Commissioner in Client Engagement you’ll play an important role in fostering willing participation in Australia’s tax and super systems through well-designed client experiences. You will be an influential leader and provide strategic, thought and people leadership in a transforming environment. You’ll lead the development and implementation of key strategic and major agency initiatives or programs in a challenging and fast paced environment. You’ll also significantly influence the outcomes of complex issues that can have a wide impact internally and externally, domestically and internationally.

Your duties

  • Lead large teams to develop and deliver innovative solutions for the administration of a more effective tax and super system
  • Drive integrity and compliance across the tax and super system
  • Build trusted relationships and work collaboratively with peers to deliver on organisational outcomes and meet government commitments

Skills and experience

  • Experience leading a large, diverse workforce to manage complex issues and multiple agendas
  • Superior relationship and communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with a range of peer level stakeholders to achieve mutually successful outcomes
  • Proven knowledge and leadership across a range of enforcement, compliance and legislative frameworks
  • Experience working with law enforcement agencies across government and/or internationally
