Australia’s competition regulator has withheld its decision on whether to accept the long-term pricing plan put forward by NBN Co.

The ACCC will not make a ruling until after the federal election, previously saying it would reject NBN Co’s plan if it did not allow the Commission to intercede on commercial disputes and price-setting.

The so-called “special access undertaking” is an important piece of planning, set to form the foundation of the country’s telecommunications market by defining pricing and access terms to all companies interested in providing services on the NBN.

The ACCC is hanging out for a number of important changes, including the right to review usage charges and regulate the introduction and withdrawal of products. The measures are intended to help consumers by preventing companies form avoiding price caps by switching products.

Many of the changes have been accepted by NBN Co, but ACCC chair Rod Sims said this week that the notice will be finalised after the upcoming poll.
